Skill and
patience play a vital part in setting up and operating machine tools, checking the
accuracy of the work and adjusting machine settings to produce parts within tolerace. An
operator will work on both computer-controlled and manual machines.
Manual drilling and computer numerically controlled
(CNC) drilling machines
Band machines that may be used for sawing, filing or
polishing.
Manual lathes and CNC turning machines to produce
cylindrically shaped parts.
Manual milling machines and CNC machining centers
which produce flat or contoured surfaces on work pieces.
Manual griders, such as cylindrical, surface, tool
and cutter griders, and CNC grinders to produce very accurate and smooth surfaces.
