10 Instructor Obtain stock ½ x 5-inches. *  
20 Instructor Calculate taper attachment setting.
30 Instructor Have Instructor check your calculations. *  
40 Lathe Chuck part and face to clean up.
50 Lathe Center drill with a #3 center drill. This will be the 0.375 diameter end.
60 Lathe Turn part in chuck Face to length and center drill with a #4 center drill.
70 Lathe Set up lathe to turn between centers. Remember to plan ahead for center hole removal on the large end of the workpiece.
80 Lathe Knurl 0.50 end with a straddle type knurling tool. Make sure you knurl far enough to remove the center hole in the 0.50 end.
90 Lathe Turn the part around. Use a soft material to protect the knurl from the dog.
95 Lathe Turn the 0.45 diameter.
100 Lathe Turn the 0.375 diameter.
110 Lathe Set up the taper attachment. Be ready to answer questions on how to measure the taper.
120 Instructor Have instructor check set up. *  
130 Lathe Take trial cuts. Check the taper. Make adjustments if necessary.
140 Lathe Finish cutting taper to the dimension.
150 Lathe Deburr the part.
160 Lathe Inspect part.
170 Lathe Turn in for grading. *
